Foundation
The population of the municipality (2500 hab. Approx.)
Most of this population are bourgeois merchants, artisans, civil servants, professionals, teachers, soldiers, landlords.
The largest portion of the population are placed at the rural area (15,000 habitants. Approx.) this population lives of agriculture and fishing.
At the beginnings, Bolivar was called Santa Ana del Pescador, the territory is mostly mountainous. It was founded in 1567 at the Gorrones indian lands, Bolivar is one of the oldest municipalities of Valle del Cauca.

Tourism.
Bolivar has many important points of access. The architecture has a colonial-style, also has a couple of good hotels where you can relax , several pools to recreation, many restaurants of good quality and prices for all budgets. For shopping there are numerous handicraft Shops.
In the district of Ricaurte, placed five minutes driving is "The Divine", The people are pleasant and willing to talk.
La Mina, Bolivar has the only mine of magnesium at South America.
The Reservoir, is the most important water supply system for this region, named SARA BRUT that provides water to 4 municipalities. (Bolivar, Roldanillo, la Union y Toro)

Typical food
The Chicken soup (sancocho de gallina), the Lucrecia’s rellenas, the toño robledo’s pandebonos and buñuelos, Tamales, empanadas…
The typical sweet: las panelitas and the manjar Blanco, also the cuaresmeros are biscuits made in a wood oven, the Brevas Sweet, The Don Onofre’s wine.
